On Sunday, October 16, 2011, at 11:15 a.m. as many of us as possible (with God's help) will meet to study (reading, discussing and praying our way through) Martha Grace Reese's book, Unbinding the Gospel.
A favorite quote of Daniel's from the book: "After talking with pastors and lay people in churches that are thriving and in churches that are failing, I am clear that the only way to do ministry successfully, to lead a church or to live a life in today's United States, is to pray deeply. We must hand ourselves over to God in clearheaded accountable non-naive prayer."
Martha Grace Reese's book is the most comprehensive look at who we are as the church (as well as why the protestant presence in the U. S. is declining AND why each generation is less involved in religious life than the one that came before it). We, the leadership of St. Paul's-Fremont, need to understand this. And then we need to individually AND COLLECTIVELY pray that God will work through us to accomplish amazing, unexpected things among us and the people around us.
Please join us in this important leadership activity. We will meet once a week (Sundays at 11:15 a.m.) for eight consecutive weeks, beginning the 16th of October. There will be assigned reading (your choice of the book or notes) before each meeting and exercises to be completed. At the first meeting we will all pair up with a prayer partner. Thereafter, the prayer partners are to pray together each week as well. When the group meets each week, we will discuss the assigned chapter(s), complete any group exercises, and pray together. |
